Have a glass of wine and relax after a long day when you add a hot tub to your home to use year-round. Electrical problems and DIY wiring stress are simply not enjoyable...Trust us, relaxation comes MUCH easier when you have your spa installed and properly wired by an expert team.
While wiring a freestanding hot tub or spa is an advanced job, that should be left to the professionals, Axiom Power is here to help you prepare for your new hot tub!
Prepping for Your Hot Tub
Planning ahead for your hot tub or spa installation and wiring ensures the best overall experience for you as a homeowner. Here are some things to consider when you are adding a new hot tub to your backyard:
Placement for Freestanding Spas. Where do I put it? Inside or outside? Is there proper ventilation if it’s placed inside?
How much space do I need on either side? Make sure to consider adequate access to the electrical access panel for future servicing and maintenance.
What surface will I place it on? Hot tubs should not be placed on soil or grass, but instead a solid foundation that will support its weight and to reduce moisture exposure.
Hookups. You are not able to just plug in a hot tub spa and use it right away. Axiom Power will help you consider any and all necessary electrical wiring needed. Freestanding hot tubs/spas do not require any plumbing, just a basic garden hose to fill once properly installed.

Electrical Considerations for Hot Tub Wiring
Before you purchase your hot tub or spa make sure you also take into account these important electrical details...
Do Not Install Wiring Under Power Lines or Low-Voltage Lighting Nearby
Local codes will dictate how far away you need to be from the water’s edge; current codes in our service area vary but generally require at least 10 feet.
Low-voltage lighting shouldn’t be placed within a 10-foot radius, even if it’s GFCI protected. For your safety.
Can You See the Breaker?
For freestanding spas, the disconnect breaker needs to be at least 5 feet away from the tub, but within line of sight. You can’t fully relax without feeling safe using your new spa.
Avoid Underground Wiring Below the Hot Tub
Any underground wiring should be installed in either a rigid metal conduit, an intermediate metal conduit, or a nonmetallic raceway system. We properly wire both freestanding and in-ground hot tubs.
Properly Test the Wiring Before Use
A licensed electrician will use a set of electrical testers to make sure the wires have no ground faults and proper continuity. Each GFCI component will be tested as well. Once the spa or tub is filled with water, our electricians will test the spa’s controls and jets.
